Some of the fun facts about the US Post office

As odd as this might sound, there are actually fun facts about the US post office that can fascinate most people.

One of them is that the fleets of the long life vehicles that belong to the post office actually have their drivers on the right side in respect to the standard left side. It would be annoying and a waste of time for every driver to keep having to come out of the vehicle to deliver the mail so this basically accommodates them by saving them at that time.

We have all read or heard about seventh day Adventists, you might also be one yourself. Then it may interest you to know that in a city known as Loma Linda, a Fed Ex post is delivered on Sunday and not on Saturday. It is because a huge portion of the population, there are seventh day of Adventists hence delivering post on Saturday would go against their belief that Saturday is a day to rest and not to work.

Another interesting fact about the US postal office is that it is the second biggest employer with the first being Wal-Mart. It provides employment to 656000 people. We have also heard about the remote places and these remote places also have remote postal offices. One such place is Alaska. The postal office at Anaktuvuk is the remotest one as all its mail and gift wrap should be delivered by air.

Another fact that would offend your interest is that a certain phase derived from the PO is basically a much used slang term. This phrase is “to go postal”. In slang, this implies to go completely crazy or insane. Its use is followed by various events that happened between 1986 and 1997 where 40 people were killed by US postal staffs due to their workplace rage.
